What is Brooklyn Jubilee?

Brooklyn Jubilee is a Christian organization formed for the purpose of cultivating healthy neighborhoods in Brooklyn, and promoting peace and prosperity for all of Brooklyn by creating and nurturing programs for social and economic justice.

Brooklyn Jubilee's first (but not last) program began in August 2006 - a legal services ministry, providing advice to low-income tenants at the Helping Hands food pantry, operated by St. Augustine Roman Catholic Church in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Jubilee aims to empower low-income Brooklyn tenants with knowledge about their housing rights. Working under the supervision of one or more attorneys, volunteers work directly with food pantry clients during their normal Saturday morning grocery pick-up to answer basic questions to learn about their rights to housing, food stamps, and public health insurance. Through regular on-site legal clinics, in which low-income tenants are able to speak with a lawyer, Brooklyn Jubilee aims to equip tenants to advocate for themselves to preserve affordable housing and obtain repairs in their apartments.
