Serving On Site - Meeting Needs One at a Time
As we serve in our legal services ministry, we constantly meet tenants who are looking for more affordable housing. We help them access the latest information about affordable housing developments in NYC. We advise them on ways to speed up pending applications with public housing. We educate tenants on ways to retain the affordable housing that they have. We've seen some wonderful success stories, and you can read more about them on the Brooklyn Jubilee blog.
Building Coalitions to Better Serve Our Neighbors
For over 30 years, the Fifth Avenue Committee has been a serving our community. FAC is a major developer of affordable housing throughout South Brooklyn. In September 2007, Brooklyn Jubilee gained representation on the Fifth Avenue Committee Board of Directors. We are now able to support the work of the long-standing affordable housing developer from this inside.
Recently, we brought together a congregation in Flatbush with the FAC leadership, to develop affordable housing on their deteriorating property. In 2011, we hope to see a new worship space for this church, and several affordable housing units for those in need with the help of FAC. We are now exploring ways to replicate this model, encouraging Brooklyn churches to serve their community with their great blessing of real estate by developing affordable housing.
