Community Meal, June 28th!

Kick off your summer by volunteering with our Nutrition Program's Community Meal in Flatbush, June 28th!

JUNE 28
Every Saturday at noon, Flatbush Reformed Church (the oldest church in Brooklyn) serves a free meal to anyone in the community who is in need. At Brooklyn Jubilee's first Community Meal of 2014 on June 28th, people from all walks of life will sit around the table together, enjoying a healthy diabetic-friendly meal. Anyone who wants to know more about healthy cooking can join in the preparation before the meal, or take away recipes to prepare at home. We'll have Brooklyn Jubilee staff and volunteers on hand to talk to people about food stamps, and a medical professional will provide free blood pressure screenings.

Volunteer Needs
We need volunteers for different jobs to make the event a success.

Getting Meal Ingredients: On Friday morning, we need one volunteer with a car who is willing to drive, and one or two more volunteers to accompany them to pick up donated food for the meal and deliver it to the church kitchen.

Prep Work: On Friday night, veggies need to be chopped, washed, stored for cooking the next morning. This will be held at the church at 7:30 PM. (approx. 2-3 hours)

Event Day Cooks and Service: We need lots of volunteers on Saturday the 22nd to help prepare and serve the meal and clean up. approx. 9:30am until 1:30pm. Those don't all need to be the same people, and many hands make light work, so the more the merrier!

Interested in volunteering for either event? Contact Christel at nutrition@brooklynjubilee.org to sign up, or just to join us for lunch!
